- Dubai-based beauty guru claims her face is asymmetrical
- She uses makeup to make herself appear symmetrical before ‘big shoots’
A makeup guru has revealed that her trick to creating the perfect cheekbones is a piece of office stationery.
Beauty vlogger Huda Kattan, who is based in Dubai, posted a video on her Instagram revealing that she uses a ruler to contour her face.
The technique, which uses blended tones to sharpen features and give the appearance of good bone structure, has long been advocated by the Kardashian clan.

Before: Beauty blogger Huda Kattan, 32, from Dubai, has taken the trend for contouring to another level by suggesting people measure their features with a ruler to ensure maximum symmetry
But Huda, who has 12.8 million followers on Instagram, has taken the technique to another level by measuring the contours with a ruler to make them perfectly balanced.
The video shows her darkening her hairline, neckline and the area under her cheeks before smoothing over the colour with foundation.
Huda, who last month revealed that she regularly shaves her face with a men’s razor, claims her features are asymmetrical because she slept on the same side for years.
The technique, which appears to take some time to perfect, is not something she does everyday.
After: The Instagram sensation, who last month revealed she uses a man’s razor to shave her face, has attracted more than 78,000 likes on the post about using rulers to contour
‘I started doing this a while back because I noticed the asymmetry in my face from sleeping on one side of my face for years,’ Huda wrote on Instagram.
‘For me it was def noticeable! I don’t do this all the time, but when I have major shoots and I know the camera picks up on things we don’t see in person, I do this.’
She claims it ‘adds the most amazing harmony to your face’ and the post has attracted more than 78,000 likes.
The beauty guru uses a simple ruler, a mainstay of student pencil cases, to measure both her face and the length of the contours she’s working on
Contouring works by darkening areas to enhance definition before blending lighter colours on top
Some of her followers seemed unimpressed, however with several commenting that ‘nobody would have time’ to do this.
One scathing comment read: ‘You need a bigger ruler to measure this level of stupidity.’
While dominicangirlfriend expressed confusion: ‘This makes no sense doesn’t even look like she is using it right.’
In April a video in which Huda revealed that she regularly ‘exfoliates’ her face by shaving with a razor drew a slew of negative comments.
However, Huda’s technique has been dismissed as too much faff in comments on her Instagram page
She claims her face needs contouring to correct asymmetry caused by sleeping on the same side
Huda revealed that she had been doing it for a year. ‘Shaving your face is a real thing,’ she wrote, adding that it had been ‘going on for decades in Asia’.
She was also quick to dispell any myths surrounding the technique, adding: ‘To answer everybody’s questions, no your hair does not grow back thicker when you shave dry!’
The 30-second Instagram clip provoked 16,000 comments in 24 hours with some of her fans apparently horrified, with many simply writing: ‘Wtf,’ and another blasting: ‘First neck contouring, now this?’ Gina Jauregui wrote: ‘What the heck? No way.’
But others were grateful to Huda for thrusting the issue into the spotlight, with one fan simply writing: ‘Thank you for this.’
