According to certified personal trainer Matthew Flynn, there’s no better way to beat a hangover than a good, old-fashioned, vein-popping run. (Hey, nothing worth having ever comes easy, right?!)
Flynn says that getting a good start after the weekend is “crucial” and that you should literally be running away from less than desirable decisions and into healthy habits.
“Getting the heart and lungs pumping will help burn off extra calories consumed over the weekend,” says Flynn.

Not to mention, running is a sure-fire way to boost your mood, reduce stress, get a breath of fresh air and increase your overall cardiovascular health. (Regardless of how many tequila shots might have been consumed the night before.)
“Running is always going to seem hard at the time and even more so when you’re hungover or tired from a big weekend of indulging. But still, I recommend it because you will feel great afterwards. It’s one of the best exercises for weight loss and improved heart health.”
Not to mention, a run might just help you sweat out the residual toxins. Researchers in Denmark also found that running for just two hours a week can extend your life by over five years. Seems worth it to us.
Just remember, it’s essential to drink water and replenish your body continuously, otherwise an already painful run could turn a lot worse, and working out when you’re dehydrated is a straight-up recipe for disaster.
