How to maintain good health in old age
- maintaining good health in old age is very critical
- Along with healthy body, a healthy mind is also important
- Experts say caregiving gives elderly people a life purpose and keeps them active
Grandparents who babysit their grandchildren tend to live longer than seniors who do not care for other people, a study has found.
Having full-time custody of grandchildren can have a tiring effect on our elders but the bond keeps them healthy and active.
But occasional helping can be beneficial for seniors, the researchers write in the journal Evolution and Human Behaviour.
Those who helped relatives or strangers tended to live healthier and happier life.
‘Having no contact with grandchildren at all can negatively impact the health of grandparents,’
Along with moderate physical exercise like walking boost their overall well being.
How my father maintain good health in old age
My father is around 77 years old but very active. He is so busy that he dont even get time to think about his age. He get the groceries from market also also do stock trading on his mobile phone.
He is healthy and active because he chose to be. He kept himself busy with household chores and kept his mind active by trading in stocks.
I wish to be like my father who still maintain good health in his old age. let me write down his routine which can help all of us
- He gets up early at 5:00 and prays
- Drinks warm water every morning soon after he wakes up
- sleeps back again upto 7:00 AM
- Goes for a 20 minutes walk around 7 AM and gets into SUN
- eats a healthy breakfast like fruits, dry fruits (though he have dentures)
- listen to some religious talk on you tube
- listen to some videos on stock market
- starts trading upto 12:00
- Sleep for 30 to 40 minutes
- have lunch ( he eats everything, Veg, Non-Veg, sweets etc but in moderation)
- continues his trading upto 3:30
- write downs all his trades in a copy and analysis them
- sleep again for half an hour
- get his grand kids from school and also gets some groceries
- Call his old friends and speaks with them for 20 to 30 minutes
- call relatives and talks to them
- prays again
- have dinner and then go for 15 to 20 minutes walk
- watches some news and religious videos
- goes to sleep
on weekends my stock market is closed he spend time with his grand kids and take them to nearby park.
What I also noticed that no amount of exercise or good food will help unless you have good friends and family. I have seen many senior citizen all alone with no one to talk. so its very important that they maintain healthy relationship with their friends and families.
Families should also respect them and they should also understand that new generation is busy and every body in the family should be provided their own space and priorities.
‘Children should take into (consideration) their parents’ needs, willingness and desires and agree with them on the timing and amount of care. Also we need to make sure that our elders have proper medical insurance coverage.
